Microblade Healing Process

Microblading Treatment – The Healing Process

It’s important to wait until your eyebrows are properly healed (after your 6 week touch up appointment) before making a final judgement about them. Remember… this treatment is a two step process requiring patience (with some clients needing a third appointment) to get the full desired look and you won’t achieve this until after your touch up appointment.

During the first few days, you may experience some minor swelling, redness, blanching (white outline) and tenderness, as well as some tightness or itchiness around the eyebrow area.

If your eyebrows are kept clean and dry then only a thin film (not a scab) will appear. The film will make your eyebrows look darker than when treated, but this is not the color your eyebrows will be when healed. The color implanted will fade by up to 50% during the healing process and the shape may also shrink in size as the skin is healing. The film will peel off itself after 7 – 14 days & may not exfoliate evenly. Leave the film alone; picking will lift color and strokes from the treated area resulting in unevenness and blank spots. Let the area heal naturally for best results.

Whilst the film is peeling, it may seem as though the treatment hasn’t worked – the color may look weak, orange, pink, or grey or it may seem as though hair strokes / pigment have disappeared.

Why? Microblading is not as deep as a ‘normal’ tattoo – your new healed skin is covering the pigment and is what’s making it look like your treatment hasn’t worked.

You’ll notice between weeks 2 – 4 that your eyebrows start coming back. If the color is still weak or patchy at weeks 4 – 6, don’t worry! In many cases, some unevenness of color is to be expected. We may need to try a different technique at your touch up appointment and can monitor your healing after this to ensure you get your desired results.

Healing is specific to each client and it’s important to realize that you’ll need a color boost every 9 / 12 / 18 months depending on your skin type and lifestyle to maintain the vibrancy of your microbladed eyebrows. When you leave the appointment, your eyebrows will be intact and I’ll do my best to help you heal properly. Your personal lifestyle choices, age, genetics, and skin type will contribute to the retention of your eyebrows. If you use sun beds, sunbathe, have oily skin, use anti-aging creams or acidic cleansers, have regular chemical peels or exercise frequently to the point where you sweat a lot, your eyebrows WILL fade faster than anticipated.

Permanent makeup is an art, not a science. Your results will vary and using a brow pencil or powder may still be needed, especially when wearing heavy coverage make up. Please remember that microblading is only an enhancement to your natural brows. This is not a ‘no maintenance’ treatment, but a ‘low maintenance’ treatment. No two sides of the face are the same or perfectly symmetrical and whilst trying to obtain perfect symmetry is my goal, nothing is guaranteed or perfect.

Microblading Treatment – Aftercare Routine

It’s important to keep your brows completely dry for the first 7 – 14 days after your treatment. Even a small drop of water will expand the wounds and a scab will appear causing pigment to come out of the skin which will result in patchy eyebrows. Take extra care when washing your hair.

  • Do not touch or scratch your eyebrows – picking at them will cause pigment to come out.
  • Do not exercise after your treatment due to excess sweating. Gentle exercising is OK.
  • No cosmetics or make up on your eyebrows for 2 weeks – after 2 weeks is fine.
  • No saunas or swimming for 2 weeks after your treatment – after 2 weeks is fine.
  • No sun beds, sunbathing, eyebrow tinting, chemical peels, mesotherapy, dermabrasion, botox or other strong treatments for 4 weeks – after 4 weeks is fine.

Please remember… sun beds, sunbathing, smoking and abrasive treatments in the brow area will cause your healed results to fade faster and more frequent top ups will be required.

The day of the treatment: Absorb

Gently blot the area with clean tissue to absorb excess lymph fluid. Do this every 5 minutes for the full day until oozing has stopped.  Removing this fluid prevents hardening of the lymph.

Days 1-7Wash
Wash daily to remove bacteria and dead skin. (Don’t worry….THIS DOES NOT REMOVE THE PIGMENT!)

Gently wash your eyebrows each morning and night with water and an antibacterial soap like Dial Soap, Cetaphil or Neutrogena.  With a very light touch, use your fingertips to gently cleanse the eyebrows. Rub the area in a smooth motion for 10 seconds and rinse with water ensuring that all soap is rinsed away. To dry, gently pat with a clean tissue. DO NOT use any cleansing products containing acids (glycolic, lactic, or AHA), or any exfoliants.

Days 1-7 Moisturize
Apply a rice grain amount of aftercare ointment with a cotton swab and spread it across the treated area. Be sure not to over-apply as this will suffocate your skin and delay healing. The ointment should be barely noticeable on the skin. Never put the ointment on a wet or damp tattoo.

What to Expect During and After Your Microblading Session

Entire healing process will take from 4-6 weeks depending on your body regeneration and age. Your new eyebrows will go through several phases during the healing cycle.

The pigment will appear very natural looking immediately after the procedure. The color of the pigment will appear much darker the next day.

Note that because of natural skin regeneration, after recovery period (peeling), brows might appear lighter than original. This might give you the impression that color is fading too quickly. Often even with proper care, clients may lose original hair strokes which make brows look uneven. It is absolutely normal. That’s is the reason why most customers need a touchup after 6 weeks.

Once the healing of the skin starts taking place, it will look like dandruff flakes or dry skin. However, this is just superficial color and dry skin being naturally removed from your eyebrows.  The final look of your eyebrows will be apparent approximately 30 days after your procedure.

Never rub the treated area as it will disturb the skin from natural healing.

Once completely healed, always apply a layer of sunscreen SPF 30 up to SPF 50 on your eyebrows when exposed to the sun.  Sun exposure might cause the color pigment to fade away more quickly. When using foundation, be aware when applying to avoid your healed eyebrows. If foundation covers healed brows, your eyebrows will appear lighter.

You can now enjoy your beautiful new temporary eyebrows.  You will simply love your new gorgeous fresh look!
